What the leaders do - and where Betclic hasn't caught up yet

Betclic compared with Betano, Bwin, Solverde, LeBull and Placard across 6 GEO criteria. It's not a points ranking - it's a survey of confirmed practices: what the leaders do, with sources, and whether Betclic does the same. Hover over the icons to see the source for each fact.

Methodology

Two phases: get found, then get cited

GEO research describes this as a pipeline, not a single metric.

Web source
Indexing / Retrieval
Press · Sponsorships · Affiliates
Citation in the answer
Content · E-E-A-T · Freshness

Phase 1 - Getting found

  • Being mentioned across many sites matters more than having many links pointing to the same site
  • That's why Press and Affiliates count in this analysis
  • Sponsorships count indirectly - they generate news, and it's that news that helps

Phase 2 - Getting cited

  • Giving concrete examples and numbers helps a lot
  • Well-structured text also helps
  • Up-to-date content is preferred over old content
  • Text that can't be read (hidden in the code) is ruled out immediately
Overview

On par with the leaders in 4 of 6 areas

The real gap is only in two - and both come from the same cause: not having an owned, maintained content platform.

DimensionLeaders' patternBetclic
PressAll 6 confirmed, no differentiation✓ on par
Owned ContentOwn technical blog (Betano, Bwin, Solverde)✗ gap - no blog, empty FAQ
E-E-A-TReview with named tester (Betano, Bwin, LeBull)✓ on par - has a named review
SponsorshipsTop-tier sports presence (Betano, Betclic)✓ leads - league naming rights
AffiliatesBroad coverage across comparators (Betano, Bwin, Betclic)✓ on par
FreshnessRecently dated content (Betano, Bwin)✗ gap - nothing to update
There is a single root cause

Owned Content and Freshness are, in practice, the same gap seen from two angles: with no blog, there's nothing to own and nothing to keep updated. I tested Betclic's official FAQ directly - it's empty, the code has no text at all. In the other 4 dimensions, Betclic is already on par with the leaders or ahead - the energy doesn't need to go into "catching up" everywhere, only into fixing one concrete thing.

Application

The answer: 22 owned domains

The gap identified (Owned Content + Freshness, same root cause) is exactly what the 22-domain strategy attacks directly.

BlockDomainsTies to which gap
Ranking & Freebets6Owned Content - presence on owned ground in comparisons
Football Content5Freshness - dated editorial around matches and leagues
Casino5Owned Content - dedicated vertical, licence no. 004
Exceptions2Special cases, handled individually
Why this lines up with the analysis

The GEO layer of the strategy itself (Entity and E-E-A-T, content in extractable, factual, dated blocks) is, point by point, what we confirmed is missing at Betclic and present in the leaders: visible authorship, exposed SRIJ licence, verifiable data, dated content. The 22 domains don't compete with Betclic - they feed the same entity.

Dimension · Press

Press presence - no real differentiation

Mentions in newspapers count toward GEO - paid or editorial, the bot doesn't tell them apart.

Mentions in newspapers count toward the GEO score - whether paid advertising or reporting, the bot doesn't distinguish.

Competition
All 6 operators have a dedicated, individual page in the 3 main newspapers - Observador, JN and O Jogo - confirmed one by one, not in shared lists.
Betclic
On par - own page confirmed in the 3 newspapers.
Betclic3/3
Betano3/3
Bwin3/3
LeBull3/3
Solverde3/3
Placard3/3

In practice, these pages are paid content with their own promo code (e.g. "JOGOVIP", "BETANOBS") - not independent editorial press. For an AI system indexing brand mentions that doesn't matter: sponsored and organic count the same. That's why this dimension doesn't differentiate anyone.

Dimension · Owned Content

Owned content and technical health

Only what's in real text counts, not hidden behind code.

Having owned content counts toward the GEO score - but only if it's in real text, not hidden behind code that only the browser can render.

Benchmark
  • Solverde: blog with 7 categories, incl. Guides and Tutorials
  • Bwin: blog with predictions and casino guides
  • Betano: blog with a complete A-to-Z tutorial
Betclic
Confirmed gap - no owned blog, and the official FAQ is empty (code with no text). It's the only operator in this analysis with a technical failure confirmed by direct test, not just absence of a blog.
Betclic0/3
Solverde3/3
Bwin3/3
Betano3/3
Placard1/3
LeBull0/3

What matters here is the format: only what's in readable HTML without JavaScript counts - we confirmed this by testing Betclic's FAQ (empty code) and Betano's blog (only visible via Google's index, not in a direct fetch). Placard: the only source is an institutional page published by Santa Casa (parent entity), not a blog run by Placard itself.

Dimension · E-E-A-T

Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust

Concrete specificity carries more weight than generic praise.

Concrete specificity carries more weight in the GEO score than generic praise - whether a named tester or a product feature identified by name.

Competition
Two forms of specificity confirmed: LeBull and Bwin with reviews by a named tester, methodology and concrete dates; Betano cited by 4 AI systems for named product features (BetMentor, live xG, Odds Combo). Different formats, same principle - concrete data instead of generic praise.
Betclic
On par - review with 3 named testers (Diogo Oliveira, Tiago Silva, Mariana), timings to the second, identified support agents. But it's praised for UX (app, live streaming, cash out), never for content.
Betclic3/3
LeBull3/3
Bwin3/3
Betano3/3
Solverde1/3
Placard1/3

What matters here is the format of the review, not the brand that publishes it - identified author, visible methodology, concrete data (dates, values, times). That's replicable across the 22 domains regardless of what Betclic or any operator does.

Dimension · Sponsorships

Sponsorships and social proof

They count indirectly - they generate news, and it's the news that counts.

Sponsorships count toward the GEO score indirectly - they generate news, and it's that news that counts.

Competition
Betano sponsors Sporting, Benfica and Porto simultaneously.
Betclic
Leads - names the Liga Portugal since 2023/24 (contract until 2027), plus FPF, FPB, UFC, Estoril Open. The name is embedded in every league standing and fixture list.

BetclicLiga Portugal (since 2023/24, contract until 2027) + FPF + FPB + UFC + Estoril Open
BetanoSporting CP + SL Benfica + FC Porto, simultaneously
PlacardOwned by Santa Casa da Misericórdia; former basketball sponsor
LeBullLuís Figo, ambassador since 2024; sponsor of Rio Ave and Santa Clara
SolverdePhysical casino heritage since 1972, no top-tier sports sponsorship
BwinLiga Bwin 2021/22-2022/23 - historic, replaced by Betclic

A sponsorship itself isn't text an AI reads - a logo on a shirt isn't indexable data. What counts is the text the sponsorship generates around it: news, articles, mentions in captions.

Dimension · Affiliates

Coverage by third-party comparators

The more comparators talk about a brand, the more likely it is to be cited.

Comparators and affiliate sites are often the source AI uses to answer "which is the best betting site" - the more of these sites talk about a brand, the higher the probability it appears cited.

Competition
Betano and Bwin covered by multiple independent comparators (apostasagora.pt, sapo.pt, academiadasapostas.com, among others).
Betclic
On par - at least 4 distinct sites confirmed (apostasagora.pt, champsbase.com, nostrabet.com, casasdeapostasonline.pt).
Betclic3/3
Betano3/3
Bwin3/3
Solverde2/3
Placard1/3
LeBull1/3

What counts here is the count of distinct domains, not the volume of backlinks - the Ahrefs study shows brand mentions across many sites correlate 3x more strongly with AI visibility than having many links pointing to the same place.

Dimension · Freshness

Content freshness

AI prefers recent information to old information.

Up-to-date content counts toward the GEO score - AI prefers recent information to old information.

Counts

  • A new article, or an old article rewritten with different information
  • A review/FAQ page updated with new data (odds, bonuses, deadlines)
  • A visible "last updated" date in the text, tied to content that actually changed

Doesn't count

  • Changing a button color, layout or image - a crawler reads text, it doesn't see this
  • Touching only the "last modified" date without changing the text - gameable, likely discounted
  • Transactional content (daily odds, promos) - always changes, but not what an AI would cite
Benchmark
Betano published on 25 Aug 2026 (confirmed, the most recent of the 6). Bwin published on 29 Jul 2026.
Betclic
Confirmed gap - no blog, no content to date. Placard, for comparison, at least has an institutional page frozen since 2023; Betclic doesn't even have that.
Betclic0/3
Betano3/3
Bwin3/3
Solverde2/3
Placard0/3
LeBull0/3

Betano: post confirmed on 25 Aug 2026, but with a technical caveat - a direct fetch only sees 2023 metadata, not the real text. Google indexed the content, which suggests systems that rely on indexes can read it; systems that crawl on their own without executing JavaScript risk seeing nothing.

A live snapshot of AI visibility: how often each brand surfaces in AI answers, and which sources the models cite.

This is measured data, not an estimate - a tracker running the Portuguese betting prompt set through AI models and recording every brand mentioned and every URL cited. Overall visibility share is the percentage of answers in which each brand appears. Betclic sits at 8.3%, well behind the leaders.

Betclic 8.3% AI visibility - behind Betano (27.5%) and Bwin (22.5%). The regulator (SRIJ) and comparison sites outrank Betclic's own presence.
