SRIJ (PT) + Semrush (PT/FR/PL) + Google Trends

The demand behind the strategy

How big is the market, and what do people actually search? Three layers: the Portuguese regulator's hard numbers, real Semrush search volumes across PT/FR/PL, and Google Trends interest. Everything shown is sourced - nothing invented.

Top-left = expensive but low-volume (PT: high intent, easy to win). Bottom-right = high-volume but cheap (PL: the bonus giant). Smaller bubbles = lower keyword difficulty = faster to rank.

For the 22 sites: a dedicated bonus page per market, plus “code promo / kod promocyjny [brand]” pages - the best-converting queries, and lower KD than the generic terms.

Comparative

“qual o melhor site de apostas” · “meilleur casino en ligne” · “najlepsze kasyna online”

Legality / safety

“legalne / polskie kasyno” (~90K each in PL) - legality intent, gold for a ranking site

How-to

“como ganhar” · “jak obstawiać”

France is the outlier: “casino en ligne” draws ~246K searches/month at a CPC of $22.60 - the highest commercial value across all three markets. But online casino is illegal in France, so that demand can't be served by a licensed operator - it flows to unlicensed sites. Huge intent, structurally out of reach; a real tension worth naming, not a target.

What about searches inside ChatGPT / Claude / Perplexity?

No provider - Semrush included - publishes real query volumes for those LLMs; it isn't measurable today. The valid proxy is exactly this set of comparative and legality questions - the kind of query models answer by citing rankings. That is the whole GEO logic behind the proposal.

The finding

In none of the three markets do the models cite operators as sources - they cite regulators and comparison / ranking sites. That is exactly the category of the 22 owned domains: these sites, not the operators, write the answer the user reads. Betclic is never the default in Portugal (Betano appears in 100% of answers), strongest in France (the only market where it regularly reaches #1), and weakest in Poland - where casino citations fall to zero, because the models answer that only the state's Total Casino is legal.

Method & limits

Responses come from the models' internal knowledge (no active web search): they reflect what each model learned up to training, vary between runs, and the “sources” they list are sites the model associates with the topic - not links it just verified. What that doesn't undo is the pattern: variance across the three runs stays under 5pp in every market, so the signal is stable, not noise; the source lists were cross-checked against real per-market search results. Models: Gemini 3.7 Flash, GPT-5.4-mini, Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite.

Search interest · Google Trends

Google Trends gives relative interest (0-100), not an absolute number of searches. Two things are well established: the market is led by Betano and Betclic on top-of-mind interest, and demand is sharply event-driven. Per-brand index values aren't shown here because they need a live Trends export - which drops straight into this page.

Interest is event-driven

Betting search interest in Portugal isn't flat - it spikes hard around major football moments: the World Cup 2026, the Euro, Champions League nights and the Liga Portugal Betclic rounds. These peaks are exactly where owned, dated content and fresh fixture pages capture demand - and where AI answers increasingly intercept the query.

  • World Cup 2026
  • Euro
  • Champions League
  • Liga Portugal Betclic
What this means for the strategy

The market is large (€1.2bn revenue, 1.12M active players), growing (+8.5%) and young (~80% under 45). Demand is real and rising - and it concentrates around football events, in the exact sports-betting vertical that owned content and freshness serve. The gap the GEO analysis found (no owned blog, thin freshness) sits directly on top of the biggest, most seasonal pool of demand. Capturing it is the point of the 22 owned domains.

SRIJ figures are the regulator's official quarterly statistics. Google Trends is relative search interest, not absolute query volume; exact keyword volumes require Keyword Planner / Ahrefs / Semrush.
